Congress had a chance to get the Federal
government out of Education and Transportation and they blew it.
The education bill was up for renewal and all
Congress had to do was to ignore it.
The same goes for the Export-Import Bank. Also Congress could have neglected to pass a
Transportation Bill. None of these
non-actions could have been stopped by an Obama veto.
Allocating federal gasoline taxes back to the
States would have taken a Bill and if Obama had vetoed it, the gasoline tax
could have reduced the deficit.
Not giving the Department of Education $124
billion would have saved $124 billion from being spent. Not giving the Department of Transportation
$350 billion would have saved $350 billion from being spent. Adding another $500 billion in spending cuts
would have reduced government’s dependence on borrowed money and reduced the
interest on the debt.
Congress is caught up in a perpetual “bums’
rush” spending frenzy controlled by their campaign contributors, environmental
nut-bags and the chamber of Communists.
Politicians should realize the waste involved
in the spending done by these departments and the mal-investment costs incurred
by states and counties on “non-road” boondoggles like metro-trains, Amtrak,
public transit, bike lanes, multiuse paths and welfare for developers.
